Narrative:
Cleared to hold short where taxiway crosses approach path of runway. Hold lines were covered with snow and ice. Approaching area, I was distracted by a helicopter hovering nearby. When I tried to determine my position, I realized I had strayed into the approach area. At this time ground control cleared me to parking. There was no traffic on approach at the time. There is a small sign on one side of the hold area that I missed while distracted. Incursions are frequent on this taxiway due to poor markings, winter conditions, poor visibility of associated runways and only 1 sign. The greatest improvement to safety would be signs on both sides of hold lines, and approaching from both directions.
