Narrative:

Catering had difficulty opening R1 door. Requested help from first officer. First officer opened R1 but did not realize door was armed. Slide came out of pack onto catering truck but did not inflate. Maintenance re-attached slide and signed aircraft log. Just before loading was completed, maintenance returned and found air bottle for opening R1 door in an emergency had been activated and was at zero pressure. Aircraft removed from service.

Title: A B757-200 WHILE PARKED HAD DOOR R1 ESCAPE SLIDE INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED WHEN CREW ASSISTED TO OPEN DOOR.

Narrative: CATERING HAD DIFFICULTY OPENING R1 DOOR. REQUESTED HELP FROM FO. FO OPENED R1 BUT DID NOT REALIZE DOOR WAS ARMED. SLIDE CAME OUT OF PACK ONTO CATERING TRUCK BUT DID NOT INFLATE. MAINT RE-ATTACHED SLIDE AND SIGNED ACFT LOG. JUST BEFORE LOADING WAS COMPLETED, MAINT RETURNED AND FOUND AIR BOTTLE FOR OPENING R1 DOOR IN AN EMER HAD BEEN ACTIVATED AND WAS AT ZERO PRESSURE. ACFT REMOVED FROM SVC.
