Narrative:
We had just passed over iiu VOR. The center controller asked us if we were still on our assigned heading. We had just completed our small turn (10 degrees) over iiu. Radial for airway was 334 degrees. With winds, we were about 325 degrees on heading. Our previous heading had been 335 degrees. Unsure of his question (we did not remember ever being assigned a heading), we stated we were on 335 degrees as we turned back 10 degrees. We were then assigned 360 degrees for traffic. Then we were given 350 degrees and he pointed out traffic at 10:30 - 11 O'clock position and 8 mi. We had the traffic on TCASII but he was 15 mi out. There were 3 of us in the cockpit. Not one of us ever heard center assign us a heading. And we never responded to an assigned heading if it was actually assigned.

Title: A B727 PIC RPT ON AN ALLEGED HDG ASSIGNMENT BY ATC THAT WAS NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED BY THE FLC PASSING IIU, KY.
Narrative: WE HAD JUST PASSED OVER IIU VOR. THE CTR CTLR ASKED US IF WE WERE STILL ON OUR ASSIGNED HDG. WE HAD JUST COMPLETED OUR SMALL TURN (10 DEGS) OVER IIU. RADIAL FOR AIRWAY WAS 334 DEGS. WITH WINDS, WE WERE ABOUT 325 DEGS ON HDG. OUR PREVIOUS HDG HAD BEEN 335 DEGS. UNSURE OF HIS QUESTION (WE DID NOT REMEMBER EVER BEING ASSIGNED A HDG), WE STATED WE WERE ON 335 DEGS AS WE TURNED BACK 10 DEGS. WE WERE THEN ASSIGNED 360 DEGS FOR TFC. THEN WE WERE GIVEN 350 DEGS AND HE POINTED OUT TFC AT 10:30 - 11 O'CLOCK POS AND 8 MI. WE HAD THE TFC ON TCASII BUT HE WAS 15 MI OUT. THERE WERE 3 OF US IN THE COCKPIT. NOT ONE OF US EVER HEARD CTR ASSIGN US A HDG. AND WE NEVER RESPONDED TO AN ASSIGNED HDG IF IT WAS ACTUALLY ASSIGNED.
