Narrative:
We were flying from phx to san at FL280. Winds were approximately 040 degrees at 90 KTS. Occasional light turbulence, mostly smooth. Originally cleared to pillo intersection on the baret arrival, we were then vectored slightly north of track. Departing FL280, I turned on the seatbelt sign. Passing approximately FL180, approach advised us of reports of moderate turbulence (south of our position) from a small aircraft between 10000 ft and 8000 ft. I then made a PA telling the passenger the current WX and that there was a possibility of turbulence at lower altitudes due to higher winds. I then told the flight attendants to secure the cabin for arrival, early. I expected them to clean up and take their seats with plenty of time before any possible turbulence. Shortly after leveling at 10000 ft, the airplane rolled abruptly right, then left approximately 15 degrees of bank with associated moderate bumps. I clicked off the autoplt and PA'ed the flight attendants to take their seats (just in case they weren't seated). Seconds later, the turbulence hit again with the associated rolls. I requested an immediate descent from approach and was given 6000 ft. Passing 8000 ft the ride improved. I rang the senior flight attendant who told me they were fine. After landing, however, I learned that they were not seated, and that the 2 flight attendants in the rear were very shaken and decided not to continue. They appeared uninjured but very upset.

Narrative: WE WERE FLYING FROM PHX TO SAN AT FL280. WINDS WERE APPROX 040 DEGS AT 90 KTS. OCCASIONAL LIGHT TURB, MOSTLY SMOOTH. ORIGINALLY CLRED TO PILLO INTXN ON THE BARET ARR, WE WERE THEN VECTORED SLIGHTLY N OF TRACK. DEPARTING FL280, I TURNED ON THE SEATBELT SIGN. PASSING APPROX FL180, APCH ADVISED US OF RPTS OF MODERATE TURB (S OF OUR POS) FROM A SMALL ACFT BTWN 10000 FT AND 8000 FT. I THEN MADE A PA TELLING THE PAX THE CURRENT WX AND THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY OF TURB AT LOWER ALTS DUE TO HIGHER WINDS. I THEN TOLD THE FLT ATTENDANTS TO SECURE THE CABIN FOR ARR, EARLY. I EXPECTED THEM TO CLEAN UP AND TAKE THEIR SEATS WITH PLENTY OF TIME BEFORE ANY POSSIBLE TURB. SHORTLY AFTER LEVELING AT 10000 FT, THE AIRPLANE ROLLED ABRUPTLY R, THEN L APPROX 15 DEGS OF BANK WITH ASSOCIATED MODERATE BUMPS. I REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT FROM APCH AND WAS GIVEN 6000 FT. PASSING 8000 FT THE RIDE IMPROVED. I RANG THE SENIOR FLT ATTENDANT WHO TOLD ME THEY WERE FINE. AFTER LNDG, HOWEVER, I LEARNED THAT THEY WERE NOT SEATED, AND THAT THE 2 FLT ATTENDANTS IN THE REAR WERE VERY SHAKEN AND DECIDED NOT TO CONTINUE. THEY APPEARED UNINJURED BUT VERY UPSET.
