Narrative:
On the morning of dec/xa/99, I obtained AWOS at U42 airport, and AWOS reported winds calm. At this airport the 'calm wind' runway is runway 34 because it has a l-hand traffic pattern (standard). I obtained a radio check from another aircraft flying in vicinity of airport. I then proceeded to taxi to runway 34. After my runup, I reported taxiing onto runway 34 for takeoff northwest departure. After applying takeoff power, I rotated. After I initiated a climb, approximately 400 ft AGL, I noticed the other aircraft in question taking off on runway 16. I altered course to the right, and I believe he did as well, although I was above him. I then did another radio check and received a 'loud and clear.' I then switched to approach control and heard the other pilot question approach control (no jurisdiction over this airspace) about small aircraft tail number. I heard no radio call from other aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF A PIPER PA44 SEMINOLE MADE AN EVASIVE ACTION R TURN DURING INITIAL CLB AFTER TKOF TO AVOID A PIPER PA34 SENECA TAKING OFF FROM THE OPPOSITE END OF THE UNCTLED ARPT RWY. THE OTHER ACFT ALSO WAS OBSERVED TURNING R TO ASSURE SEPARATION.
Narrative: ON THE MORNING OF DEC/XA/99, I OBTAINED AWOS AT U42 ARPT, AND AWOS RPTED WINDS CALM. AT THIS ARPT THE 'CALM WIND' RWY IS RWY 34 BECAUSE IT HAS A L-HAND TFC PATTERN (STANDARD). I OBTAINED A RADIO CHK FROM ANOTHER ACFT FLYING IN VICINITY OF ARPT. I THEN PROCEEDED TO TAXI TO RWY 34. AFTER MY RUNUP, I RPTED TAXIING ONTO RWY 34 FOR TKOF NW DEP. AFTER APPLYING TKOF PWR, I ROTATED. AFTER I INITIATED A CLB, APPROX 400 FT AGL, I NOTICED THE OTHER ACFT IN QUESTION TAKING OFF ON RWY 16. I ALTERED COURSE TO THE R, AND I BELIEVE HE DID AS WELL, ALTHOUGH I WAS ABOVE HIM. I THEN DID ANOTHER RADIO CHK AND RECEIVED A 'LOUD AND CLR.' I THEN SWITCHED TO APCH CTL AND HEARD THE OTHER PLT QUESTION APCH CTL (NO JURISDICTION OVER THIS AIRSPACE) ABOUT SMA TAIL NUMBER. I HEARD NO RADIO CALL FROM OTHER ACFT.
