Narrative:
At mather airport, clearance is obtained from sac approach control which services sac international. Usually we call approach control when we are ready for takeoff to obtain release. On this day approach called us and stated that we were released shortly after we began to taxi. We normally taxi with 1 air conditioning pack off due noise consideration in the cockpit. Prior to takeoff, both packs are turned on. Normally I check to assure that the aircraft is correctly configured for takeoff, ie, flaps, packs, trim, etc, when cleared for takeoff. I did this check when we were released, but elected to let the one pack remain off due to an extended taxi. The pack was not turned on prior to takeoff. This aircraft has takeoff data for packs off or packs on, but not one in each confign. This could have been prevented by following the procedures I normally use, rather than finding an exception.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF A B757 TOOK OFF WITH 1 AIR CONDITIONING PACK TURNED OFF CAUSING THE INCORRECT TKOF PWR DATA SINCE THERE IS NO DATA FOR ONLY 1 PACK ON.
Narrative: AT MATHER ARPT, CLRNC IS OBTAINED FROM SAC APCH CTL WHICH SVCS SAC INTL. USUALLY WE CALL APCH CTL WHEN WE ARE READY FOR TKOF TO OBTAIN RELEASE. ON THIS DAY APCH CALLED US AND STATED THAT WE WERE RELEASED SHORTLY AFTER WE BEGAN TO TAXI. WE NORMALLY TAXI WITH 1 AIR CONDITIONING PACK OFF DUE NOISE CONSIDERATION IN THE COCKPIT. PRIOR TO TKOF, BOTH PACKS ARE TURNED ON. NORMALLY I CHK TO ASSURE THAT THE ACFT IS CORRECTLY CONFIGURED FOR TKOF, IE, FLAPS, PACKS, TRIM, ETC, WHEN CLRED FOR TKOF. I DID THIS CHK WHEN WE WERE RELEASED, BUT ELECTED TO LET THE ONE PACK REMAIN OFF DUE TO AN EXTENDED TAXI. THE PACK WAS NOT TURNED ON PRIOR TO TKOF. THIS ACFT HAS TKOF DATA FOR PACKS OFF OR PACKS ON, BUT NOT ONE IN EACH CONFIGN. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BY FOLLOWING THE PROCS I NORMALLY USE, RATHER THAN FINDING AN EXCEPTION.
