Narrative:

Aircraft damage. As captain of flight, elected to do postflt inspection. Was advised by ramp personnel of dent on bottom of tail cone. Observed damage after climbing a ladder to get a closer look. Damage was very hard to detect by eye, but could tell by hand check. Called dispatch, maintenance technician and contract mechanic. Aircraft was removed from service. Damage appeared to be caused by a ground vehicle.

Title: AN MD80 PIC IS ASKED TO CHK ON RPTED DAMAGE TO THE TAIL OF HIS ACFT DURING A POSTFLT INSPECTION AT IND, IN.

Narrative: ACFT DAMAGE. AS CAPT OF FLT, ELECTED TO DO POSTFLT INSPECTION. WAS ADVISED BY RAMP PERSONNEL OF DENT ON BOTTOM OF TAIL CONE. OBSERVED DAMAGE AFTER CLBING A LADDER TO GET A CLOSER LOOK.
