Narrative:
Our company keeps an international book on board with our required navigation performance and LOA on board. On our trip, the book was not in the airplane and the captain called our maintenance people who said they had a copy of the LOA on file and would facsimile it to us. We then departed for hawaii and the return trip. When we got back, I asked the captain about the LOA and he said he never got it. It is my understanding from now on that the LOA must be on board the airplane and even if a copy if on file at the office that is not good enough. The LOA must be on board the airplane. In the future, I will make sure we don't take off until I've seen the LOA personally.
