Narrative:
After landing on runway 28 at delhi, india, we taxied clear of the runway and awaited a parking assignment. After a brief delay we were assigned a gate by ground control, and proceeded to the gate area. There was no ground staff at the gate. Upon arrival at the gate we saw what appeared to be a marshal facing the aircraft, standing on the centerline. As we proceeded slowly into the gate the flight engineer asked if I saw the lights of the guidance system, I said yes. The captain advised me that he thought we were left of center and at that point, by positive xfer, I released control of the aircraft to him. Almost immediately we stopped and he asked if we had hit something, then the marshal held up crossed fists. The flight engineer went back to check our position and confirmed we had hit the jetway midway between the #1 and #2 engines.
