Narrative:
I was on the ramp at sez. Listened to unicom, heard no traffic. Announced intention to lift to hover, taxi for takeoff. Lifted, turned, looked for traffic. Transitioned toward taxiway, started to take off. Looked again, saw aircraft (cherokee) left and above me. Turned back to taxiway, descended. Aircraft passed me while climbing, I turned back to runway and took off. It took two 'looks,' but 'see and avoid' still works.

Title: NMAC. PLT OF A HELI TOOK EVASIVE ACTION DURING TKOF AT AN UNCTLED ARPT TO AVOID A PIPER CHEROKEE TAKING OFF.
Narrative: I WAS ON THE RAMP AT SEZ. LISTENED TO UNICOM, HEARD NO TFC. ANNOUNCED INTENTION TO LIFT TO HOVER, TAXI FOR TKOF. LIFTED, TURNED, LOOKED FOR TFC. TRANSITIONED TOWARD TXWY, STARTED TO TAKE OFF. LOOKED AGAIN, SAW ACFT (CHEROKEE) L AND ABOVE ME. TURNED BACK TO TXWY, DSNDED. ACFT PASSED ME WHILE CLBING, I TURNED BACK TO RWY AND TOOK OFF. IT TOOK TWO 'LOOKS,' BUT 'SEE AND AVOID' STILL WORKS.
