Narrative:
Approaching gate at bna, I stopped the airplane because there were no wing walkers in position. After trying to signal my reason for stopping, 2 bodies moved toward the wings. They did not have wands, nor did they signal that the wings were clear. In fact, as soon as I resumed taxiing, they turned their backs on the airplane. I write this because of our new change to part X, section ab. After this event, I was informed by a fleet service clerk that they should always have wands. And at night, the wands should be lighted and they should be wearing vests (the wing walkers, not the wands). Part X indicates that the guideman needs wands lighted at night but no requirements for the wing walkers. The ramp was well lit, and not for the new requirement for 2 wing walkers on all domestic arrs. I would have been happy with just the guideman. How badly did I screw up? Do I need to be watching for vests and/or wands? Does the FAA care?

Narrative: APCHING GATE AT BNA, I STOPPED THE AIRPLANE BECAUSE THERE WERE NO WING WALKERS IN POS. AFTER TRYING TO SIGNAL MY REASON FOR STOPPING, 2 BODIES MOVED TOWARD THE WINGS. THEY DID NOT HAVE WANDS, NOR DID THEY SIGNAL THAT THE WINGS WERE CLR. IN FACT, AS SOON AS I RESUMED TAXIING, THEY TURNED THEIR BACKS ON THE AIRPLANE. I WRITE THIS BECAUSE OF OUR NEW CHANGE TO PART X, SECTION AB. AFTER THIS EVENT, I WAS INFORMED BY A FLEET SVC CLERK THAT THEY SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE WANDS.
