Narrative:
Our flight plan route from bgr to cvg was J49 psb air cinci 3. The FMS route was J80 air cinci 3. Unfortunately, 'maintenance' was in process while I was programming FMS. Attempting to assist the mechanic 'troubleshoot,' I failed to xchk route. ATC caught us, advised 'no problem' and gave us a heading to air.
