Narrative:
Our computer ARTS III program is supposed to automatically track departures. In a 30 min period, 3 separate departures did not tag up. I had to force the beacon code into the ARTS system so they would tag. This is an ongoing problem at clt. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that a technical support group from the washington office came to the facility and worked 5 days on the problem. The local technician believed the problem with the ARTS system. It turned out to be a computer equipment failure.
