Narrative:
Flying 135 degree heading from tvt (tiverton) VOR to ckb (clarksburg) VOR at 7500 ft VFR. I received a call from ZOB (120.4), '...traffic 12 O'clock position, 1 mi, closing, indicated altitude 7600 ft.' I immediately (2 seconds) spotted the traffic, straight ahead, slightly to my right and slightly above, wbound, I heard no other call from center to the other aircraft. I report to the center, 'traffic in sight, 12 O'clock position.' before I needed to take (or could take evasive action, our right wings passed, I could read the tail number, a bonanza A35 v-tail, but did not write the number down. I reported to center that we had passed and traffic was no longer a factor. I asked center why other aircraft was at 7600 ft indicated (more like 7550 ft) with a westerly heading. I received no response. When handed off to clarksburg approach, I thanked the controller for the advisory. To whom do I send the dry cleaning bill?
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A PVT PLT, IN A PA28-181, EXPERIENCED AN NMAC IN THE VICINITY OF TVT VOR.
Narrative: FLYING 135 DEG HDG FROM TVT (TIVERTON) VOR TO CKB (CLARKSBURG) VOR AT 7500 FT VFR. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM ZOB (120.4), '...TFC 12 O'CLOCK POS, 1 MI, CLOSING, INDICATED ALT 7600 FT.' I IMMEDIATELY (2 SECONDS) SPOTTED THE TFC, STRAIGHT AHEAD, SLIGHTLY TO MY R AND SLIGHTLY ABOVE, WBOUND, I HEARD NO OTHER CALL FROM CTR TO THE OTHER ACFT. I RPT TO THE CTR, 'TFC IN SIGHT, 12 O'CLOCK POS.' BEFORE I NEEDED TO TAKE (OR COULD TAKE EVASIVE ACTION, OUR R WINGS PASSED, I COULD READ THE TAIL NUMBER, A BONANZA A35 V-TAIL, BUT DID NOT WRITE THE NUMBER DOWN. I RPTED TO CTR THAT WE HAD PASSED AND TFC WAS NO LONGER A FACTOR. I ASKED CTR WHY OTHER ACFT WAS AT 7600 FT INDICATED (MORE LIKE 7550 FT) WITH A WESTERLY HEADING. I RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. WHEN HANDED OFF TO CLARKSBURG APCH, I THANKED THE CTLR FOR THE ADVISORY. TO WHOM DO I SEND THE DRY CLEANING BILL?
