Narrative:
After taxiing clear of active runway 12R at stl (lambert-st louis international) we stopped on B1 to contact ground control. Ground advised us to 'taxi to your gate contact the tower supervisor on phone #xyz when able.' after speaking to the supervisor he stated we were cleared right to the ramp with the tower and that we are not to stop until we enter the non movement area. Ie, not talk to ground control at all. Since this is an unusual procedure for pilots unfamiliar with stl operations (this was the first time this crew ever flew into stl) I believe a note to effect 'expect tower clearance to the ramp when exiting to the north ramp areas' or have the tower verbally issue the clearance. As I stated neither my first officer nor I noticed the tower clearing us to the ramp.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A SAAB, SF340, WERE ADVISED BY STL TWR SUPVR TO NOT STOP ON TXWY AFTER LNDG TO CONTACT GND CTL FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS.
Narrative: AFTER TAXIING CLR OF ACTIVE RWY 12R AT STL (LAMBERT-ST LOUIS INTL) WE STOPPED ON B1 TO CONTACT GND CTL. GND ADVISED US TO 'TAXI TO YOUR GATE CONTACT THE TWR SUPVR ON PHONE #XYZ WHEN ABLE.' AFTER SPEAKING TO THE SUPVR HE STATED WE WERE CLRED RIGHT TO THE RAMP WITH THE TWR AND THAT WE ARE NOT TO STOP UNTIL WE ENTER THE NON MOVEMENT AREA. IE, NOT TALK TO GND CTL AT ALL. SINCE THIS IS AN UNUSUAL PROC FOR PLTS UNFAMILIAR WITH STL OPS (THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS CREW EVER FLEW INTO STL) I BELIEVE A NOTE TO EFFECT 'EXPECT TWR CLRNC TO THE RAMP WHEN EXITING TO THE N RAMP AREAS' OR HAVE THE TWR VERBALLY ISSUE THE CLRNC. AS I STATED NEITHER MY FO NOR I NOTICED THE TWR CLRING US TO THE RAMP.
