Narrative:
10 mi west of mad VOR, ATC cleared us (an MD88) to descend from 11000 ft to 10000 ft MSL. Upon leveloff at 10000 ft, the #1 autoplt disengaged causing the aircraft to descend through 10000 ft. A gentle pullup was initiated to stop descent and return to 10000 ft. Aircraft descended to approximately 9750 ft. Autoplt was written up in maintenance manual. No further discrepancies noted.
