Narrative:
As we were being vectored on base to runway 1R (ict), air carrier flight XXX, aircraft xyz, I noticed wisps of smoke emanating from the captain's audio panel. We notified ATC and asked to be vectored to the final. ATC, upon reception of this information, declared an emergency and cleared us to the runway. They had the fire trucks standing by. The smoke subsided shortly and we were able to land safely. We were able to taxi to terminal without any incidents. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the smoke came from the captain's audio panel and all audio on al communication units were lost from this position. The reporter said some wiring had burned on the instrument cooling fan which was discovered when the audio panel was replaced. The reporter said no circuit breakers were found tripped.
