Narrative:

Had just taken sector while in the hold and then were immediately pulled out of hold. I was focused that trainee was giving proper clrncs and that they were being read back properly. There was a lot of coordination going on that was distracting and confusing. I didn't realize trainee hadn't made pointout to mfd sector, on aircraft #1 and he got together with air carrier #2 in mfd's airspace. Supplemental information from acn 473427: air carrier #1 in hold at wakem intersection at FL220 when conflict alert went off with air carrier #2. Air carrier #1 was turned to a 260 degree heading to avoid air carrier #2. Assumption was made that a pointout was made to the adjacent sector that would have avoided the conflict.
