Narrative:
Originally cleared for civet arrival route to runway 25L at lax. Changed to mitts arrival runway 24R. Activated secondary flight plan which was pre-loaded for mitts arrival runway 24R. PF did not go back to navigation mode. In heading mode, passed over civet and missed right turn to mitts. Ended up about 1.5 mi off course and corrected per instructions from approach control. PNF on radio at time of activating secondary flight plan and did not properly back up PF when he should have activated navigation mode. Another out-of-loop experience where PNF should have caught the problem but was distraction by radio.
