Narrative:
We were wbound on taxiway J with a clearance to 'taxi to the ramp.' as I approached holding point xg, I noticed an aircraft on holding point xf. I was to enter at holding point xf. Therefore, I stopped on taxiway J abeam holding point X6. We then called the ramp tower who controls spot xf. I was instructed to enter xf as soon as the other aircraft cleared out of the spot. I did exactly that. Once parked, ramp tower asked me to call them on the phone. I did and was told that the FAA felt I had created an 'unsafe situation' by switching to ramp tower too soon. I disagree. My clearance was all the way to the ramp. I did not exceed a clearance limit and, in fact, called the controling entity (ramp control) for clarification for entering the ramp.

Title: FLC OF AN EMBRAER EMB120 SWITCHED TO RAMP CTL WHILE HOLDING ON TXWY FOR RAMP SPOT TO VACATE RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTACT WITH TWR GND CTLR.
Narrative: WE WERE WBOUND ON TXWY J WITH A CLRNC TO 'TAXI TO THE RAMP.' AS I APCHED HOLDING POINT XG, I NOTICED AN ACFT ON HOLDING POINT XF. I WAS TO ENTER AT HOLDING POINT XF. THEREFORE, I STOPPED ON TXWY J ABEAM HOLDING POINT X6. WE THEN CALLED THE RAMP TWR WHO CTLS SPOT XF. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO ENTER XF AS SOON AS THE OTHER ACFT CLRED OUT OF THE SPOT. I DID EXACTLY THAT. ONCE PARKED, RAMP TWR ASKED ME TO CALL THEM ON THE PHONE. I DID AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FAA FELT I HAD CREATED AN 'UNSAFE SIT' BY SWITCHING TO RAMP TWR TOO SOON. I DISAGREE. MY CLRNC WAS ALL THE WAY TO THE RAMP. I DID NOT EXCEED A CLRNC LIMIT AND, IN FACT, CALLED THE CTLING ENTITY (RAMP CTL) FOR CLARIFICATION FOR ENTERING THE RAMP.
