Narrative:
We had just briefed approach and preset altimeter setting before returning FCU to qne (29.92). A momentary distraction resulted in a gradual driftdown of 350 ft to FL236.5 instead of FL240. ATC queried our altitude, which we promptly corrected by 1) resetting altimeter to qne, and 2) adjusting altitude back to FL240. No conflict or further concern was expressed by ATC. Remainder of flight operated normally and without incident. Supplemental information from acn 474490: level at FL240, I was giving the approach briefing for runway 4R for ord. In the brief, I gave and set the local altimeter setting for ord, but did not reset it back to standard 29.92. This caused a gradual driftdown to FL236.4. ATC asked us if we were level at FL240 and we corrected immediately setting in the correct altimeter setting of 29.92 (qne) and climbing back to FL240. When we reached FL240 we informed ATC. After that, operations normal all the way to ord.

Title: A320 CREW SET QNH ABOVE THE TRANSITION ALT.
Narrative: WE HAD JUST BRIEFED APCH AND PRESET ALTIMETER SETTING BEFORE RETURNING FCU TO QNE (29.92). A MOMENTARY DISTR RESULTED IN A GRADUAL DRIFTDOWN OF 350 FT TO FL236.5 INSTEAD OF FL240. ATC QUERIED OUR ALT, WHICH WE PROMPTLY CORRECTED BY 1) RESETTING ALTIMETER TO QNE, AND 2) ADJUSTING ALT BACK TO FL240. NO CONFLICT OR FURTHER CONCERN WAS EXPRESSED BY ATC. REMAINDER OF FLT OPERATED NORMALLY AND WITHOUT INCIDENT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 474490: LEVEL AT FL240, I WAS GIVING THE APCH BRIEFING FOR RWY 4R FOR ORD. IN THE BRIEF, I GAVE AND SET THE LCL ALTIMETER SETTING FOR ORD, BUT DID NOT RESET IT BACK TO STANDARD 29.92. THIS CAUSED A GRADUAL DRIFTDOWN TO FL236.4. ATC ASKED US IF WE WERE LEVEL AT FL240 AND WE CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY SETTING IN THE CORRECT ALTIMETER SETTING OF 29.92 (QNE) AND CLBING BACK TO FL240. WHEN WE REACHED FL240 WE INFORMED ATC. AFTER THAT, OPS NORMAL ALL THE WAY TO ORD.
