Narrative:
We had departed ind at XA10Z. I was hand-flying the aircraft. After a few leveloff clrncs issued by ind departure we were cleared to 14000 ft. The first officer acknowledge and dialed 14000 ft in the altitude pre-select. We both confirmed the altitude. Shortly thereafter ind cleared our aircraft direct fwa expect direct garen intersection. At that time there was some discussion of an aircraft on TCASII. The first officer at this time also appeared uncertain as to whether we were cleared direct fwa direct garen or direct fwa expect garen. While clarifying the clearance to my first officer we both failed to acknowledge the 1000 ft before level callout. The next thing I heard was a chime. I immediately recognized the chime. Looking at my altimeter I was climbing 300 ft over my assigned altitude. I immediately reduced power and attempted to arrest my descent. By the time we began our descent, we were at 14500 ft. Shortly after departure called to say we're cleared to 14000 ft and to confirm our altitude. By this time we were less than 300 ft above our assigned altitude and descending rapidly so I confirmed we were leveling 14000 ft. Departure acknowledged. 2 or 50 mins later departure told us to change frequency in a calm tone and nothing further was said.

Title: G159 CREW HAD ALT OVERSHOOT IN ZID CLASS E.
Narrative: WE HAD DEPARTED IND AT XA10Z. I WAS HAND-FLYING THE ACFT. AFTER A FEW LEVELOFF CLRNCS ISSUED BY IND DEP WE WERE CLRED TO 14000 FT. THE FO ACKNOWLEDGE AND DIALED 14000 FT IN THE ALT PRE-SELECT. WE BOTH CONFIRMED THE ALT. SHORTLY THEREAFTER IND CLRED OUR ACFT DIRECT FWA EXPECT DIRECT GAREN INTXN. AT THAT TIME THERE WAS SOME DISCUSSION OF AN ACFT ON TCASII. THE FO AT THIS TIME ALSO APPEARED UNCERTAIN AS TO WHETHER WE WERE CLRED DIRECT FWA DIRECT GAREN OR DIRECT FWA EXPECT GAREN. WHILE CLARIFYING THE CLRNC TO MY FO WE BOTH FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE 1000 FT BEFORE LEVEL CALLOUT. THE NEXT THING I HEARD WAS A CHIME. I IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED THE CHIME. LOOKING AT MY ALTIMETER I WAS CLBING 300 FT OVER MY ASSIGNED ALT. I IMMEDIATELY REDUCED PWR AND ATTEMPTED TO ARREST MY DSCNT. BY THE TIME WE BEGAN OUR DSCNT, WE WERE AT 14500 FT. SHORTLY AFTER DEP CALLED TO SAY WE'RE CLRED TO 14000 FT AND TO CONFIRM OUR ALT. BY THIS TIME WE WERE LESS THAN 300 FT ABOVE OUR ASSIGNED ALT AND DSNDING RAPIDLY SO I CONFIRMED WE WERE LEVELING 14000 FT. DEP ACKNOWLEDGED. 2 OR 50 MINS LATER DEP TOLD US TO CHANGE FREQ IN A CALM TONE AND NOTHING FURTHER WAS SAID.
