Narrative:

Our flight was being vectored for approach to runway 27L at atl. Heading of about 340 degrees was assigned. As the aircraft approached the localizer or final, the crew began to ask for clearance to intercept final. 3 calls were made with no reply. Aircraft continued on assigned heading until approaching the final for runway 26R where approachs were in progress. At that time an evasive action was taken to avoid traffic on final for runway 26R. At about this time, ATC cleared our flight for a visual. A tight left turn was made toward the airport, 30 degrees (angle of bank), and a visual approach was completed. Contributing factor: radio congestion.
