Narrative:
Tower and ground frequency was operating on the same frequency. We were given permission to taxi to runway 31 via txwys a and K. We missed taxiway K and stopped short of runway 13. Tower then told us to turn right on taxiway left. I asked him if we were cleared to cross runway 13/31. He said he wasn't sure where we were, but turn right on taxiway left and cross runway 20R. We taxied and took off at the end of runway 31. We never mentioned the confusion and ground/tower never said anything about it to us. We wanted to be sure that we were not at fault. Nothing was ever said. The corrective action could be to have a more precise location of our position from the tower and more situational awareness from us, a more clear communication from ground control.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR CARGO CAPT RPTED BEING CONFUSED WHILE TAXIING AT BNA. ALLEGEDLY, THE CTLR STATED THAT HE DID NOT KNOW WHERE THE RPTR'S ACFT WAS ON THE FIELD, BUT CLRED HIM TO CROSS RWY 20R.
Narrative: TWR AND GND FREQ WAS OPERATING ON THE SAME FREQ. WE WERE GIVEN PERMISSION TO TAXI TO RWY 31 VIA TXWYS A AND K. WE MISSED TXWY K AND STOPPED SHORT OF RWY 13. TWR THEN TOLD US TO TURN R ON TXWY L. I ASKED HIM IF WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS RWY 13/31. HE SAID HE WASN'T SURE WHERE WE WERE, BUT TURN R ON TXWY L AND CROSS RWY 20R. WE TAXIED AND TOOK OFF AT THE END OF RWY 31. WE NEVER MENTIONED THE CONFUSION AND GND/TWR NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT IT TO US. WE WANTED TO BE SURE THAT WE WERE NOT AT FAULT. NOTHING WAS EVER SAID. THE CORRECTIVE ACTION COULD BE TO HAVE A MORE PRECISE LOCATION OF OUR POS FROM THE TWR AND MORE SITUATIONAL AWARENESS FROM US, A MORE CLR COM FROM GND CTL.
