Narrative:
When taxiing around the corner to hold short of runway 8R at phx, master caution illuminated after a test of the recall system. Since we were next for departure, the captain asked me to get out the checklist and work the problem. I looked down to grab the checklist, and when I looked up we had taxied over the hold short line. I asked the tower if we had been issued a clearance to position and hold. They said no. The aircraft was stopped with the nose well over the hold line, causing the aircraft on approach to go around.
