Narrative:
Air carrier stocks fans by air carrier part number, not manufacturer part number. It is up to the lead or mechanic to verify proper manufacturer part number for installation on engine. After receiving the fan and during verification of the manufacturer part number for the engine, I got the 2 different manufacturer part number confused (due to their similarity). Also at this time the serial numbers must be verified between the hub, hub data card, and the shop tag. As stated before air carrier stocks fans by air carrier part number with only a manufacturer part number on the shop tag. The manufacturer part number is an assembly part number which is not found on the fan itself anywhere, but is a number for the hub and blade set assembly. Also the hub can be used on either A-15 or A-15A. When the shop builds up the assembly they know if it is A-15 or -15A and should put that information on the shop tag.

Title: A B727-200 ENG HAD THE FAN ASSEMBLY REPLACED WITH A JT8D-15 FAN MODULE DUE TO PART NUMBER CONFUSION. CORRECT FAN MODULE IS FOR JT8D-15A ENG.
