Narrative:
I was the PF and we were given a crossing restr that I understood as 10 mi southwest of ign VOR at 7000 ft. After the PNF read back the clearance, I repeated to him 7 mi southwest of ign at 7000 ft, and he corrected me from 7 NM to 10 NM. When we were approximately 20 NM northwest of ign the ATC controller asked if we were going to make the restr and we said yes. At 10 NM northwest of ign the PNF commented on we just blew the crossing restr and the ATC controller gave us a turn to 090 degrees, so I realized something was wrong and extended spoilers to get to 7000 ft from approximately 11000 ft. I asked the copilot about the restr, and he told me the restr was 10 NM northwest of ign at 7000 ft and I asked him why he didn't question me when it was questionable about me making the restr and he said he was waiting for me to 'pull a rabbit out of the hat' because he thought I knew what I was doing. I told the copilot, anytime he thinks I might be in question to him, to speak up next time. Better CRM is definitely a major factor in the situation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN AIR TAXI FLC FLYING A LJ35 NEAR IGN FAILS TO MEET AN ALT XING RESTR AS INSTRUCTED BY ATC.
Narrative: I WAS THE PF AND WE WERE GIVEN A XING RESTR THAT I UNDERSTOOD AS 10 MI SW OF IGN VOR AT 7000 FT. AFTER THE PNF READ BACK THE CLRNC, I REPEATED TO HIM 7 MI SW OF IGN AT 7000 FT, AND HE CORRECTED ME FROM 7 NM TO 10 NM. WHEN WE WERE APPROX 20 NM NW OF IGN THE ATC CTLR ASKED IF WE WERE GOING TO MAKE THE RESTR AND WE SAID YES. AT 10 NM NW OF IGN THE PNF COMMENTED ON WE JUST BLEW THE XING RESTR AND THE ATC CTLR GAVE US A TURN TO 090 DEGS, SO I REALIZED SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND EXTENDED SPOILERS TO GET TO 7000 FT FROM APPROX 11000 FT. I ASKED THE COPLT ABOUT THE RESTR, AND HE TOLD ME THE RESTR WAS 10 NM NW OF IGN AT 7000 FT AND I ASKED HIM WHY HE DIDN'T QUESTION ME WHEN IT WAS QUESTIONABLE ABOUT ME MAKING THE RESTR AND HE SAID HE WAS WAITING FOR ME TO 'PULL A RABBIT OUT OF THE HAT' BECAUSE HE THOUGHT I KNEW WHAT I WAS DOING. I TOLD THE COPLT, ANYTIME HE THINKS I MIGHT BE IN QUESTION TO HIM, TO SPEAK UP NEXT TIME. BETTER CRM IS DEFINITELY A MAJOR FACTOR IN THE SIT.
