Narrative:
Departure from luton eggw on SID, FMS programmed for altitude restrs. On takeoff, sic selected flight level change vice vertical climb and the aircraft failed to level off at 4000 ft. It climbed to 5000 ft directly. ATC did not require us to descend, but told us to remain at 5000 ft. No other traffic was near.

Narrative: DEP FROM LUTON EGGW ON SID, FMS PROGRAMMED FOR ALT RESTRS. ON TKOF, SIC SELECTED FLT LEVEL CHANGE VICE VERT CLB AND THE ACFT FAILED TO LEVEL OFF AT 4000 FT. IT CLBED TO 5000 FT DIRECTLY. ATC DID NOT REQUIRE US TO DSND, BUT TOLD US TO REMAIN AT 5000 FT. NO OTHER TFC WAS NEAR.
