Narrative:
Proceeding from the calderwood dam vicinity south of knoxville, tn, on the atlanta sectional, it appears that you will pass the last high terrain before reaching class C airspace. However, the outer circle (10 mi) magenta coloring hides a ridge on the chart. Where V267 intersects the class C airspace this higher ridge is hidden by the blue airway, magenta circle and the #27 for runway length at montvale (private) airport. I expected sufficient clearance to maintain the 2000 ft above surface as requested by the national park service and still be under the class C airspace. As I approached that point, it did not appear that this was possible, so I turned northeast to avoid class C, but may not have turned quick enough due to confusion of position caused by chart. The class C should be altered with a 2 mi clearance parallel to the ridge to provide VFR corridor. This area is not in alignment with tys arrs or departures.

Title: A PA28 PVT PLT COMPLAINS OF THE MAP DISPLAY PROB ON THE ATL SECTIONAL AS NOT DEPICTING A RIDGE THAT CREATED A POSSIBLE CLASS C INCURSION 9 SW OF TYS, TN.
Narrative: PROCEEDING FROM THE CALDERWOOD DAM VICINITY S OF KNOXVILLE, TN, ON THE ATLANTA SECTIONAL, IT APPEARS THAT YOU WILL PASS THE LAST HIGH TERRAIN BEFORE REACHING CLASS C AIRSPACE. HOWEVER, THE OUTER CIRCLE (10 MI) MAGENTA COLORING HIDES A RIDGE ON THE CHART. WHERE V267 INTERSECTS THE CLASS C AIRSPACE THIS HIGHER RIDGE IS HIDDEN BY THE BLUE AIRWAY, MAGENTA CIRCLE AND THE #27 FOR RWY LENGTH AT MONTVALE (PVT) ARPT. I EXPECTED SUFFICIENT CLRNC TO MAINTAIN THE 2000 FT ABOVE SURFACE AS REQUESTED BY THE NATL PARK SVC AND STILL BE UNDER THE CLASS C AIRSPACE. AS I APCHED THAT POINT, IT DID NOT APPEAR THAT THIS WAS POSSIBLE, SO I TURNED NE TO AVOID CLASS C, BUT MAY NOT HAVE TURNED QUICK ENOUGH DUE TO CONFUSION OF POS CAUSED BY CHART. THE CLASS C SHOULD BE ALTERED WITH A 2 MI CLRNC PARALLEL TO THE RIDGE TO PROVIDE VFR CORRIDOR. THIS AREA IS NOT IN ALIGNMENT WITH TYS ARRS OR DEPS.
