Narrative:

Left of 090 degree heading, off miami runway 9L at 2500 ft, amber stabilizer trim light on EICAS screen illuminated. First officer was flying. Captain reached for operations manual. At same time, controller cleared us to intercept vally transition. We turned left to intercept magenta line. After 1 min, controller called and gave us a 090 degree heading to intercept 058 degree radial out of virginia key (vkz 117.1) to vally. Said we were following wrong radial. FMS had nothing for this departure. We both had vkz VOR in manual VOR. But, realized too late that magenta line was mia airport, direct vally. Controller gave us 090 degree heading to intercept 058 degree radial to vally, which we then did. The stabilizer trim distraction, and unfamiliarity with departure were contributing factors. Will brief and set up manually in FMS in the future.
