Narrative:

After takeoff from dsm we were given a climb to 10000 ft. As we passed 9000 ft for 10000 ft the flight engineer had a question about the pressurization. When I looked back to the front we were passing 10100 ft on my altimeter. I called out 10000 ft and we reached 10200 ft on my altimeter before returning to 10000 ft. The first officer's altimeter was reading about 70 ft lower than mine so on his we reached just over 10100 ft before returning to our altitude. ATC did tell us we were off our altitude. I think that one should not get involved in other duties during the last 1000 ft.
