Narrative:
During preflight at dab, the flight attendant reported the aft megaphone was broken. We called maintenance control to coordinate a replacement, and requested contract maintenance to come out and install it. Upon landing in atl, the mechanic who met the aircraft stated the replacement megaphone was non standard. Another mechanic disputed this claim. We had no way to know either way, and assumed the megaphone was proper since the company maintenance coordinator had the replacement procured and installed.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN MD88 HAD ITS FAILED REAR MEGAPHONE REPLACED WITH A NON STANDARD ONE AT DAB AND THE ERROR WAS NOT UNCOVERED UNTIL THE ACFT LANDED AT ATL, GA.
Narrative: DURING PREFLT AT DAB, THE FLT ATTENDANT RPTED THE AFT MEGAPHONE WAS BROKEN. WE CALLED MAINT CTL TO COORDINATE A REPLACEMENT, AND REQUESTED CONTRACT MAINT TO COME OUT AND INSTALL IT. UPON LNDG IN ATL, THE MECH WHO MET THE ACFT STATED THE REPLACEMENT MEGAPHONE WAS NON STANDARD. ANOTHER MECH DISPUTED THIS CLAIM. WE HAD NO WAY TO KNOW EITHER WAY, AND ASSUMED THE MEGAPHONE WAS PROPER SINCE THE COMPANY MAINT COORDINATOR HAD THE REPLACEMENT PROCURED AND INSTALLED.
