Narrative:
Altitude bust. During approach to cdg, controller issued altitude setting. First officer read back setting and controller acknowledged setting. Myself, first officer, and international relief officer all confirmed what we thought we heard 29.85. 29.85 was set in the baro window when in fact the correct setting was 0985 and should have been set in the millibar window. Our clearance was to maintain 4000 ft and intercept the localizer. The controller asked our altitude and then gave us the altimeter setting again. After resetting we were at 3000 ft. We were given a clearance to climb to 4000 ft and intercept the localizer. There were not any other aircraft in close proximity to us nor did we get any TCASII alerts.

Title: B767 CREW HAD ALT OVERSHOOT WHEN THEY SET QNH IN INCHES INSTEAD OF HPA.
Narrative: ALT BUST. DURING APCH TO CDG, CTLR ISSUED ALT SETTING. FO READ BACK SETTING AND CTLR ACKNOWLEDGED SETTING. MYSELF, FO, AND IRO ALL CONFIRMED WHAT WE THOUGHT WE HEARD 29.85. 29.85 WAS SET IN THE BARO WINDOW WHEN IN FACT THE CORRECT SETTING WAS 0985 AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN SET IN THE MILLIBAR WINDOW. OUR CLRNC WAS TO MAINTAIN 4000 FT AND INTERCEPT THE LOC. THE CTLR ASKED OUR ALT AND THEN GAVE US THE ALTIMETER SETTING AGAIN. AFTER RESETTING WE WERE AT 3000 FT. WE WERE GIVEN A CLRNC TO CLB TO 4000 FT AND INTERCEPT THE LOC. THERE WERE NOT ANY OTHER ACFT IN CLOSE PROX TO US NOR DID WE GET ANY TCASII ALERTS.
