Narrative:

On vector to ILS runway 26 at iah, mode control panel froze with all '8's' showing in boxes. Autoplt kicked off, flight director disappeared and heading bug froze in different position (between captain and first officer). Aircraft control was taken over manually but aircraft went through localizer. When correction was made, ATC advised we went through localizer turn right to intercept. All was accomplished as quickly as possible, normal landing was made visually. Try not to rely on flight director as much, but it is our normal mode of operation.
