Narrative:
After a VFR departure from I6X I climbed to 2500 ft and contacted rdu approach for flight following and a request for a practice ILS approach at rdu with a full stop landing planned. Approach assigned a transponder code and informed me to expect vectors for an ILS to runway 5L at rdu. Normal vectoring for the approach continued immediately with a few calls for traffic prior to being cleared for the approach. After being cleared for the approach to runway 5L a traffic call was made at my 10 O'clock position. I did not see the traffic and informed the controller. Now inbound to marker the controller asked for an immediate descent to 2000 ft. The traffic was reported to be at 2500 ft. I immediately started the descent, taking me well below the GS. I then saw the aircraft at 11 O'clock position, and informed approach. Approach then cleared me to resume the approach and contact tower. Simultaneous with this activity, the passenger who were both on the aircraft's intercom system became concerned about the proximity of the other aircraft and began asking numerous questions. Landing checks were performed and an uneventful landing was made on runway 5L at rdu. In all of the confusion that occurred during the handoff with traffic and the conversations occurring over the aircraft's intercom, I cannot confirm that I received and acknowledged landing clearance. No questions or comments were received from tower or ground after landing.

Title: SINGLE PLT IN THE CONFUSION OF A NEAR MISS ON FINAL MAY HAVE LANDED WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: AFTER A VFR DEP FROM I6X I CLBED TO 2500 FT AND CONTACTED RDU APCH FOR FLT FOLLOWING AND A REQUEST FOR A PRACTICE ILS APCH AT RDU WITH A FULL STOP LNDG PLANNED. APCH ASSIGNED A XPONDER CODE AND INFORMED ME TO EXPECT VECTORS FOR AN ILS TO RWY 5L AT RDU. NORMAL VECTORING FOR THE APCH CONTINUED IMMEDIATELY WITH A FEW CALLS FOR TFC PRIOR TO BEING CLRED FOR THE APCH. AFTER BEING CLRED FOR THE APCH TO RWY 5L A TFC CALL WAS MADE AT MY 10 O'CLOCK POS. I DID NOT SEE THE TFC AND INFORMED THE CTLR. NOW INBOUND TO MARKER THE CTLR ASKED FOR AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT TO 2000 FT. THE TFC WAS RPTED TO BE AT 2500 FT. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED THE DSCNT, TAKING ME WELL BELOW THE GS. I THEN SAW THE ACFT AT 11 O'CLOCK POS, AND INFORMED APCH. APCH THEN CLRED ME TO RESUME THE APCH AND CONTACT TWR. SIMULTANEOUS WITH THIS ACTIVITY, THE PAX WHO WERE BOTH ON THE ACFT'S INTERCOM SYS BECAME CONCERNED ABOUT THE PROX OF THE OTHER ACFT AND BEGAN ASKING NUMEROUS QUESTIONS. LNDG CHKS WERE PERFORMED AND AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG WAS MADE ON RWY 5L AT RDU. IN ALL OF THE CONFUSION THAT OCCURRED DURING THE HDOF WITH TFC AND THE CONVERSATIONS OCCURRING OVER THE ACFT'S INTERCOM, I CANNOT CONFIRM THAT I RECEIVED AND ACKNOWLEDGED LNDG CLRNC. NO QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS WERE RECEIVED FROM TWR OR GND AFTER LNDG.
