Narrative:
On descent, the aircraft pulled back up and the captain made a PA about a possible landing gear malfunction, and that they were going through their checklist. The flight engineer was sent back to visually check the gear and it was determined the gear was down, but the door remained open. The aircraft was shaking due to vibration of the door being open. The captain called us by phone to let us know we may experience some scrapping sparks and noise, due to the door hitting the runway and not to 'jump the gun' to evacuate/evacuation. At that point, I got up from my jumpseat to bump up seats around my exit and to double check the galley to see it was secure. We landed uneventfully, a little bit of hard braking and heard alot of noise coming from galley. When we came to a stop, we saw that the cart next to the aft left hand emergency door had come open, even though the 2 latches were in the down position. The pile in front of the door was about 2 ft high, trays, silverware, food, trash, making that exit difficult to get out of, if needed. Air carrier X has been in the process of getting new lighter meal and beverage carts. The problem is they are slightly shorter than the older carts, and the latches to hold them in barely cover the door. We took pictures of this, as this is a major oversite in design.

Title: CAB RPT, B727, DFW-BZE. GEAR DOOR OPEN FOR LNDG, ROUGH LNDG, NEW TYPE OF LIGHT, FOOD CART CAME LOOSE, AFT GALLEY, DUE TO LOWER CART HT FOR GALLEY LATCHES.
Narrative: ON DSCNT, THE ACFT PULLED BACK UP AND THE CAPT MADE A PA ABOUT A POSSIBLE LNDG GEAR MALFUNCTION, AND THAT THEY WERE GOING THROUGH THEIR CHKLIST. THE FE WAS SENT BACK TO VISUALLY CHK THE GEAR AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE GEAR WAS DOWN, BUT THE DOOR REMAINED OPEN. THE ACFT WAS SHAKING DUE TO VIBRATION OF THE DOOR BEING OPEN. THE CAPT CALLED US BY PHONE TO LET US KNOW WE MAY EXPERIENCE SOME SCRAPPING SPARKS AND NOISE, DUE TO THE DOOR HITTING THE RWY AND NOT TO 'JUMP THE GUN' TO EVAC. AT THAT POINT, I GOT UP FROM MY JUMPSEAT TO BUMP UP SEATS AROUND MY EXIT AND TO DOUBLE CHK THE GALLEY TO SEE IT WAS SECURE. WE LANDED UNEVENTFULLY, A LITTLE BIT OF HARD BRAKING AND HEARD ALOT OF NOISE COMING FROM GALLEY. WHEN WE CAME TO A STOP, WE SAW THAT THE CART NEXT TO THE AFT L HAND EMER DOOR HAD COME OPEN, EVEN THOUGH THE 2 LATCHES WERE IN THE DOWN POS. THE PILE IN FRONT OF THE DOOR WAS ABOUT 2 FT HIGH, TRAYS, SILVERWARE, FOOD, TRASH, MAKING THAT EXIT DIFFICULT TO GET OUT OF, IF NEEDED. ACR X HAS BEEN IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING NEW LIGHTER MEAL AND BEVERAGE CARTS. THE PROB IS THEY ARE SLIGHTLY SHORTER THAN THE OLDER CARTS, AND THE LATCHES TO HOLD THEM IN BARELY COVER THE DOOR. WE TOOK PICTURES OF THIS, AS THIS IS A MAJOR OVERSITE IN DESIGN.
