Narrative:
While on a right base to runway 26 at iah, we reported the preceding aircraft on approach to runway 26 in sight and were subsequently cleared for the visual approach (we never reported the field). I disengaged the autoplt and started the turn to final earlier than normal due to the strong winds out of the northwest. Even with 30 degrees of bank and flying in excess of the v-bars on the flight director, the winds pushed us into final for runway 27. There was a B737 on final below us. ATC pointed out the parallel traffic and indicated he was on an approach for runway 27. At about that same time we also received an RA to climb. We did, and very shortly the conflict was resolved -- either from the continued turn to reintercept runway 26 or from the climb. Nothing was mentioned of the incident by either the other aircraft or ATC. In the future, an earlier turn to final or pointing out the parallel traffic sooner would have prevented this scenario. Supplemental information from acn 495029: the winds were 30+ KTS out of the north.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: E120 FLC INBOUND TO IAH HAS STRONG TAILWIND ON BASE AND OVERSHOOTS HIS FINAL RESULTING IN A CONFLICT WITH TFC ON THE PARALLEL RWY.
Narrative: WHILE ON A R BASE TO RWY 26 AT IAH, WE RPTED THE PRECEDING ACFT ON APCH TO RWY 26 IN SIGHT AND WERE SUBSEQUENTLY CLRED FOR THE VISUAL APCH (WE NEVER RPTED THE FIELD). I DISENGAGED THE AUTOPLT AND STARTED THE TURN TO FINAL EARLIER THAN NORMAL DUE TO THE STRONG WINDS OUT OF THE NW. EVEN WITH 30 DEGS OF BANK AND FLYING IN EXCESS OF THE V-BARS ON THE FLT DIRECTOR, THE WINDS PUSHED US INTO FINAL FOR RWY 27. THERE WAS A B737 ON FINAL BELOW US. ATC POINTED OUT THE PARALLEL TFC AND INDICATED HE WAS ON AN APCH FOR RWY 27. AT ABOUT THAT SAME TIME WE ALSO RECEIVED AN RA TO CLB. WE DID, AND VERY SHORTLY THE CONFLICT WAS RESOLVED -- EITHER FROM THE CONTINUED TURN TO REINTERCEPT RWY 26 OR FROM THE CLB. NOTHING WAS MENTIONED OF THE INCIDENT BY EITHER THE OTHER ACFT OR ATC. IN THE FUTURE, AN EARLIER TURN TO FINAL OR POINTING OUT THE PARALLEL TFC SOONER WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS SCENARIO. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 495029: THE WINDS WERE 30+ KTS OUT OF THE N.
