Narrative:

I was letting the first officer fly from the right seat on this deadhead leg from gmu, sc, to bfd, PA, to pick up passenger. Inbound to the bfd VOR, we were cleared to descend to 4000 ft direct to the VOR. About this time a lear came on the frequency inbound to bfd. We volunteered to give way to the lear and hold at the VOR. ATC then told us to stop at 7000 ft and cleared us to hold as published at the VOR. I was distraction with the approach checklist and glanced up to see the altitude passing 6500 ft. ATC asked us our altitude as we climbed back to our assigned 7000 ft. There was no conflict with another aircraft.
