Narrative:

When making a landing, I had a smooth touchdown after a flare for landing that started 4-5 ft above the runway. Airspeed was above stalling speed. I continued to pull back on the yoke to hold nose up. Plane became airborne, stalled, bounced nose low, became airborne again, bounced again. I applied power and retracted full flaps to abort landing. Plane gndlooped off runway into sand and brush. Human performance considerations: 1) perceptions -- failure to perceive too high speed at touchdown. 2) inactions -- failure to 'bleed' speed with longer flair, and failure to ease yoke forward on touchdown. 3) decisions -- decision to add power and raise flaps.

Title: C77R PLT, AFTER A BOUNCY LNDG, LEFT THE CONFINES OF THE RWY.

Narrative: WHEN MAKING A LNDG, I HAD A SMOOTH TOUCHDOWN AFTER A FLARE FOR LNDG THAT STARTED 4-5 FT ABOVE THE RWY. AIRSPD WAS ABOVE STALLING SPD. I CONTINUED TO PULL BACK ON THE YOKE TO HOLD NOSE UP. PLANE BECAME AIRBORNE, STALLED, BOUNCED NOSE LOW, BECAME AIRBORNE AGAIN, BOUNCED AGAIN. I APPLIED PWR AND RETRACTED FULL FLAPS TO ABORT LNDG. PLANE GNDLOOPED OFF RWY INTO SAND AND BRUSH. HUMAN PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS: 1) PERCEPTIONS -- FAILURE TO PERCEIVE TOO HIGH SPD AT TOUCHDOWN. 2) INACTIONS -- FAILURE TO 'BLEED' SPD WITH LONGER FLAIR, AND FAILURE TO EASE YOKE FORWARD ON TOUCHDOWN. 3) DECISIONS -- DECISION TO ADD PWR AND RAISE FLAPS.
