Narrative:

A package of dry ice (hazmat) was loaded into the aft bulk belly of our DC10. It is not allowed to be there. We missed it on the paperwork. The company called us in the air over MVA, informed us of the problem and directed us to land at las to have the package removed. More vigilance by loader, hazmat specialist, engineer, and captain would have prevented us taking off with the package on board. It was properly packed and labeled.
