Narrative:
First officer flying approach and landing for runway 18R. Previously assigned runway 17C with switch to runway 18R. All checklists accomplished. However, I did not confirm with captain we had landing clearance. Upon landing and clearing the runway, tower sounded a little strange. I asked captain if we had clearance and he thought so and the landing lights were on. We asked the tower controller and she said we did not and there was no conflict or problem. I have learned to ensure all checklists are complete and clearance received without relying on the other crew member to ensure compliance. Supplemental information from acn 498563: first officer and I could not remember specifically the landing clearance, but it's been a 3 day trip and they all run together. The nose landing light was in bright, which I only do at receiving landing clearance. If we did not check in or get landing clearance, it was not busy at all. Why did she not contact us? I think she let us land without clearance to make a point and she would have not attempted to contact us no matter where we taxied or crossed, until we contacted her. It may be the tower recognizes my voice or sees my name on the flight plan. I am very conservative about tower clrncs. I don't acknowledge complex taxi instructions from tower when they are given when the pilots are xferring control at high speed on the runway. I don't accept multiple aircraft crossing clrncs unless I get my own readback/hearback and enough time to assure the tower had the opportunity to correct me. I have seen the limitations of our system up close, and I am very conservative. I do what I do, not to pay back anyone, but to insure safety and correctness.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: S80 FLC LWOC AFTER RWY CHANGE.
Narrative: FO FLYING APCH AND LNDG FOR RWY 18R. PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED RWY 17C WITH SWITCH TO RWY 18R. ALL CHKLISTS ACCOMPLISHED. HOWEVER, I DID NOT CONFIRM WITH CAPT WE HAD LNDG CLRNC. UPON LNDG AND CLRING THE RWY, TWR SOUNDED A LITTLE STRANGE. I ASKED CAPT IF WE HAD CLRNC AND HE THOUGHT SO AND THE LNDG LIGHTS WERE ON. WE ASKED THE TWR CTLR AND SHE SAID WE DID NOT AND THERE WAS NO CONFLICT OR PROB. I HAVE LEARNED TO ENSURE ALL CHKLISTS ARE COMPLETE AND CLRNC RECEIVED WITHOUT RELYING ON THE OTHER CREW MEMBER TO ENSURE COMPLIANCE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 498563: FO AND I COULD NOT REMEMBER SPECIFICALLY THE LNDG CLRNC, BUT IT'S BEEN A 3 DAY TRIP AND THEY ALL RUN TOGETHER. THE NOSE LNDG LIGHT WAS IN BRIGHT, WHICH I ONLY DO AT RECEIVING LNDG CLRNC. IF WE DID NOT CHK IN OR GET LNDG CLRNC, IT WAS NOT BUSY AT ALL. WHY DID SHE NOT CONTACT US? I THINK SHE LET US LAND WITHOUT CLRNC TO MAKE A POINT AND SHE WOULD HAVE NOT ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT US NO MATTER WHERE WE TAXIED OR CROSSED, UNTIL WE CONTACTED HER. IT MAY BE THE TWR RECOGNIZES MY VOICE OR SEES MY NAME ON THE FLT PLAN. I AM VERY CONSERVATIVE ABOUT TWR CLRNCS. I DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE COMPLEX TAXI INSTRUCTIONS FROM TWR WHEN THEY ARE GIVEN WHEN THE PLTS ARE XFERRING CTL AT HIGH SPD ON THE RWY. I DON'T ACCEPT MULTIPLE ACFT XING CLRNCS UNLESS I GET MY OWN READBACK/HEARBACK AND ENOUGH TIME TO ASSURE THE TWR HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO CORRECT ME. I HAVE SEEN THE LIMITATIONS OF OUR SYS UP CLOSE, AND I AM VERY CONSERVATIVE. I DO WHAT I DO, NOT TO PAY BACK ANYONE, BUT TO INSURE SAFETY AND CORRECTNESS.
