Narrative:

This situation was brought to my attention along with a letter of disciplinary action in my company file. I was one of few mechanics doing an 'a' check on an MD80. I was checking cabin interior emergency lighting. Sometime before this 'a' check, a r-hand seat assembly was changed on this aircraft. Apparently, the seat that was reinstalled didn't have the floor path light installed below on the aisle side. During my check of these floor path lights, I feel that I must have missed the item, partly because it was missing, partly because all the other units were operational. There didn't seem to be a unit inoperative or missing when I did the check. There are 8 lights along this floor path, one was missing.

Title: AN MD80 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE AFTER AN 'A' CHK COMPLETION WITH A RECENT SEAT ASSEMBLY MISSING AN AISLE FLOOR PATH LIGHT.

Narrative: THIS SIT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTN ALONG WITH A LETTER OF DISCIPLINARY ACTION IN MY COMPANY FILE. I WAS ONE OF FEW MECHS DOING AN 'A' CHK ON AN MD80. I WAS CHKING CABIN INTERIOR EMER LIGHTING. SOMETIME BEFORE THIS 'A' CHK, A R-HAND SEAT ASSEMBLY WAS CHANGED ON THIS ACFT. APPARENTLY, THE SEAT THAT WAS REINSTALLED DIDN'T HAVE THE FLOOR PATH LIGHT INSTALLED BELOW ON THE AISLE SIDE. DURING MY CHK OF THESE FLOOR PATH LIGHTS, I FEEL THAT I MUST HAVE MISSED THE ITEM, PARTLY BECAUSE IT WAS MISSING, PARTLY BECAUSE ALL THE OTHER UNITS WERE OPERATIONAL. THERE DIDN'T SEEM TO BE A UNIT INOP OR MISSING WHEN I DID THE CHK. THERE ARE 8 LIGHTS ALONG THIS FLOOR PATH, ONE WAS MISSING.
