Narrative:
After pushback and engine start and putting engine driven generators on line, 'electrical' amber annunciator light illuminated. After consulting QRH and MEL, it was determined that battery charger was off-line since dc meters in battery position indicated -4 amps. Pulled back in to gate, called dispatch and maintenance duty desk. A reset procedure was verbally given over the phone which reset the battery charger. Maintenance also stated that due to numerous similar sits, after consulting with the company and FAA, it was acceptable to proceed without a logbook entry and pilots were ok'ed to perform the reset procedure.
