Narrative:
On initial climb out from msp, 'smoke aft cargo,' message with associated warnings illuminated. ECAM/cockpit operating manual procedures complied with. Emergency was declared and return to msp initiated. Arff inspected aircraft. Advised flight crew of no smoke/fire detected or observed. Aircraft proceeded to gate for further inspection/investigation. Flight crew was advised another A320 the night before had a similar incident. These false smoke warnings may be a problem with the A320 fleetwise, and incidents should be tracked.

Title: A320 CREW EXPERIENCED A 'SMOKE AFT CARGO' WARNING DURING INITIAL CLBOUT. RETURNED TO DEP ARPT.
Narrative: ON INITIAL CLBOUT FROM MSP, 'SMOKE AFT CARGO,' MESSAGE WITH ASSOCIATED WARNINGS ILLUMINATED. ECAM/COCKPIT OPERATING MANUAL PROCS COMPLIED WITH. EMER WAS DECLARED AND RETURN TO MSP INITIATED. ARFF INSPECTED ACFT. ADVISED FLC OF NO SMOKE/FIRE DETECTED OR OBSERVED. ACFT PROCEEDED TO GATE FOR FURTHER INSPECTION/INVESTIGATION. FLC WAS ADVISED ANOTHER A320 THE NIGHT BEFORE HAD A SIMILAR INCIDENT. THESE FALSE SMOKE WARNINGS MAY BE A PROB WITH THE A320 FLEETWISE, AND INCIDENTS SHOULD BE TRACKED.
