Narrative:

On initial climb out at 500 ft AGL, stabilizer trim and mach trim caution messages were illuminated. Ran appropriate normal climb out procedures, then ran QRH procedure for the problem. The messages were extinguished (re-engaged stabilizer and mach trims). At approximately 5000 ft MSL, stabilizer and mach trim caution messages were illuminated again. We ran QRH procedure again. Could not get stabilizer and mach trim to re-engage. We informed ATC we would need to return, and contacted our maintenance department for information. Our maintenance department asked if we would continue on to our destination. We declined! We informed our flight attendant, passenger, and other appropriate company employees of our return to field. We landed safely with no further problems.
