Narrative:
Accepted off STAR vector and was told wasn't assigned. On approach to stl, approach transmitted 'turn right heading 330 degrees, expect lda dma runway 12L approach.' we read back and complied. Approximately 2 mins later, approach asked us where we were headed and turned us back to rejoin the STAR. At the end point of the STAR it states, expect radar vectors to final.' when we hit that point, approach asked us if we were in a turn yet. We asked for a heading since we had not been given one yet. Approach stated 'turn to 330 degrees.' we complied.
