Narrative:

Landed long at furnace creek, death valley airport. Touched down abeam ramp, which I thought to be midfield. Actually it was much farther down field. Since not enough runway was left for safe go around, elected to land long. Ran off end of the runway at very low speed and stopped on dirt only to have nosewheel sink into dirt. Propeller struck ground, engine stopped. No one hurt and no other damage to aircraft.

Title: M20P PLT RAN OFF THE FAR END OF THE RWY AFTER A DELIBERATE LONG LNDG ON A 3065 FT RWY. HE HAD A PROP STRIKE AFTER THE NOSEWHEEL SUNK IN THE NON LOAD BEARING SURFACE.

Narrative: LANDED LONG AT FURNACE CREEK, DEATH VALLEY ARPT. TOUCHED DOWN ABEAM RAMP, WHICH I THOUGHT TO BE MIDFIELD. ACTUALLY IT WAS MUCH FARTHER DOWN FIELD. SINCE NOT ENOUGH RWY WAS LEFT FOR SAFE GAR, ELECTED TO LAND LONG. RAN OFF END OF THE RWY AT VERY LOW SPD AND STOPPED ON DIRT ONLY TO HAVE NOSEWHEEL SINK INTO DIRT. PROP STRUCK GND, ENG STOPPED. NO ONE HURT AND NO OTHER DAMAGE TO ACFT.
