Narrative:
Aircraft xyz has silver speed tape around captain's windshield. Maintenance item control sheet reflects such. Aircraft history shows multiple write-ups regarding windshield seal and several fixes. A couple of days ago, the speed tape around first officer's windshield came off and was ingested by #2 engine. This aircraft still flies around with speed tape, and reflects tape on captain's/first officer's windshield, while tape is only on captain's windshield. Our fleet of emb jets has several aircraft flying around with speed tape around windshield seams. All legal per company authority/authorized. How can this be? This practice is unsafe. An FAA maintenance safety inspector flew with us. We discussed all this in detail.
