Narrative:
ZFW. Location: west of jackson, ms. En route, in a B727 at FL330 from dfw to mco at .77 mach, the captain (PF) deviated due to WX then corrected back on course as per instructions from center. IMC, static air temperature -50 degrees C, engine anti-ice on, wing anti-ice off. No WX return on radar in our flight path with correct tile. We encountered very strong updraft, moderate turbulence and moderate mixed ice. Aircraft ballooned to 320 ft in about 1 second. I instructed flight engineer to turn engine start switches to flight and wing anti-ice on while correcting to FL330. I had first officer (PNF) notify ATC of ballooning and WX conditions and that we were correcting. No traffic in area and no TCASII sightings or advisories. ATC just said roger and thanks for the WX advisories and clarification on type of icing. Incident lasted about 15-20 seconds. No problems with flight attendants or passenger.
