Narrative:

Descending through 10500 ft, approach told us to maintain 11000 ft. I told approach that we had read back 10000 ft and they said they missed our readback and to maintain 10500 ft. I believe approach cleared us out of 13000 ft after we advised of moderate chop and advised us it smoothed out at 10000 ft. Both pilots confirmed 10000 ft verbally, and pointed to the altitude window. Moderate turbulence, first officer's choice of not using autoflt, and neither pilot having flown into denver recently contributed.

Title: APCH CTLR MISSES THE INCORRECT READBACK AS AN ACR HVY JET FLT CREW DSNDS THROUGH AN ASSIGNED ALT OF 11000 FT BELIEVING THEY WERE ASSIGNED 10000 FT AT DEN, CO.

Narrative: DSNDING THROUGH 10500 FT, APCH TOLD US TO MAINTAIN 11000 FT. I TOLD APCH THAT WE HAD READ BACK 10000 FT AND THEY SAID THEY MISSED OUR READBACK AND TO MAINTAIN 10500 FT. I BELIEVE APCH CLRED US OUT OF 13000 FT AFTER WE ADVISED OF MODERATE CHOP AND ADVISED US IT SMOOTHED OUT AT 10000 FT. BOTH PLTS CONFIRMED 10000 FT VERBALLY, AND POINTED TO THE ALT WINDOW. MODERATE TURB, FO'S CHOICE OF NOT USING AUTOFLT, AND NEITHER PLT HAVING FLOWN INTO DENVER RECENTLY CONTRIBUTED.
